The HER SPORT project (ERASMUS-SPORT-2024-SSCP 101183744 HER SPORT) aims to develop essential skills through football for girls aged 13 to 17, particularly those living in marginalized, remote, or rural areas. The initiative promotes equal opportunities for all who wish to participate in sports.
Beyond physical benefits such as strength, endurance, and coordination, sport helps young women cultivate crucial social, communication, and emotional skills. By providing a safe space for self-expression and resilience, as well as ensuring paid and insured transport to training locations, HER SPORT removes barriers to participation and fosters inclusivity. To genuinely improve women’s access to sports, strategic efforts must go beyond accessibility. It is essential to create a welcoming, supportive, and rewarding environment for girls and women from diverse backgrounds.
This involves not only enhancing access to facilities and training but also promoting positive role models and mentoring programs that encourage young women to see themselves as integral members of the sporting community. Participation in sports is not just about playing the game – it is about fostering confidence, empowerment, and respect for diversity.
By embracing this approach, sport can evolve from mere competition into a powerful platform for personal growth, community engagement, and overall well-being. Through sports, young women can develop valuable life skills such as teamwork, resilience, and leadership, which extend beyond the playing field and positively influence other areas of their lives. Supporting women’s sports does more than promote physical fitness – it contributes to mental well-being, reduces stress, enhances mood, and boosts self-esteem. An inclusive and supportive sports culture can drive meaningful social change, inspiring a generation of women to lead active, confident, and empowered lives
